Theo Yates is a registered Canadian Trademark Agent based in our Ottawa office, with over 20 years of experience helping businesses protect and enforce their trademark rights in Canada and internationally. He works closely with clients from a wide range of industries to develop practical, business-focused trademark strategies.

Theo offers comprehensive support across all stages of the trademark lifecycle, including clearance and availability searches, application drafting and filing, prosecution of applications, and portfolio management. He also advises on trademark oppositions, summary expungement proceedings, licensing, assignments, renewals, and long-term rights maintenance, both domestically and across multiple jurisdictions.

Known for his responsiveness and clear, reliable guidance, Theo is committed to delivering value while building collaborative relationships with his clients. He is a member of both the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and the International Trademark Association (INTA).

Outside of work, Theo enjoys playing hockey and spending time outdoors, especially cross-country skiing and backcountry canoe camping.
