MBM Intellectual Property Law is seeking to add another Senior Patent Agent to our team!

Our ideal candidate will be a Registered Canadian Patent Agent with the CPATA. They will have an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and/or Physics. Finally, they will be a team player with experience drafting and prosecuting foreign and domestic patent applications, preferably in the fields of telecommunications and artificial intelligence.

The Opportunity

• Meeting with inventors to identify their invention’s points of novelty
• Drafting foreign and domestic patent applications to articulate the above in writing
• Responding to both foreign and domestic Office Actions
• Monitoring deadlines/activities related to client IP portfolios
• Fostering and maintaining positive client and colleague relationships
• Assist with the mentorship, training and development of junior patent agents in training
• Other duties as required

What You Will Bring

• A Class 1 license with the CPATA as a Registered Canadian Patent Agent (having passed USPTO Patent Bar would also be an asset)
• 8+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in both Canadian and foreign jurisdictions
• An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and/or Physics (a J.D. or other applicable law degree is not required)
• An understanding of and experience with AI, cloud computing and telecommunications technologies
• The ability to meet and manage deadlines
• The ability to analyze complex problems and devise creative solutions
• Excellent communication skills, especially in writing
• Bilingualism in French and English would be an asset (but is not mandatory)
