My Background and Focus
I joined MBM in early 2016 as a marketing consultant working on special projects, but it didn’t take them too long to convince me to join the incredible MBM team full-time. I now divide my time between various marketing initiatives and business development projects, which is the perfect mix for my personality and skills.
With over 25 years of experience, I have a solid understanding of marketing, advertising and business development, having worked for creative agencies, national publishers, and major media outlets. In my past roles, I have worked closely with B2C and B2B clients and enjoyed building tailored marketing strategies that fit each client’s specific goals. In addition, I have spent years working on consumer programs that showcased new brands, featured new products, and increased consumer engagement and loyalty, all through print, television, radio, digital and in-store media. Those experiences taught me the value of different media channels and to always approach a marketing strategy with a ‘think outside the box’ mentality.
At MBM, I focus on developing and managing our content marketing strategy to position MBM as the subject matter expert in all aspects of Canadian intellectual property. I work closely with MBM’s professionals to create fresh and relevant content for the “What’s Making IP Headlines” section of our website, blog, and social media. I ensure that the content created is first of all ‘useful and relevant’ and is also presented ‘in an understandable and simple way’ – “so even non-lawyers will understand it!”.
Within my business development role, I focus on helping our professionals maintain their existing relationships and create new ones with different client groups, from foreign associates and local Canadian clients to referral sources (aka “friends of the firm”). In addition, I love uncovering new opportunities for our team to engage and educate businesses and organizations about IP, how to protect it, and how to make it work for you to grow your business through webinars, seminars or lunch & learns. And, because I love connecting with new people, business development is always part of my day; from attending industry events to representing MBM at trade shows, any opportunity to meet someone and learn more about their business is an added bonus.
My Approach
Switching my focus from building marketing strategies for chocolate bars and pudding cups to creating marketing strategies for an Intellectual Property law firm may seem like a big leap (okay, there was an IT consulting client in between), but in reality, they are very similar. Marketing is about telling your brand’s story, and MBM has an incredible story to tell. My approach to marketing MBM is to find as many ways as possible to share who we are as a firm, to showcase the incredible people at MBM, and to provide thoughtful and valuable resources and insights on intellectual property law to our existing and potential clients.

My life outside of work
My family is all-consuming! Not just my husband and daughters but also our extended family. We are 20+ strong for dinner almost every Friday night; it’s a lot, but I love it! My true passion is community service; whether crocheting baby blankets for the hospital NICU or making sandwiches and baking cookies for a food drive, I love my volunteer projects.
Even with a busy life, I am committed to my yoga videos and long walks, preferably outside (although Toronto winters can be cold!!) and with friends. I also love reading (send me any recommendations!) and listening to podcasts; my favourites are Brené Brown, Simon Sinek and Dax Shepard (I’ll take recommendations here too!).
