My Background and Focus

Prior to joining MBM, I juggled life as a busy real estate agent and a mother. I quickly learned that incredible multi-tasking skills are transferable and valuable in any industry. In real estate, I got to do what I love, meet new people, and help them find their dream homes. I learned a lot from that career trajectory and valued the experience, but the “always-on” evenings and weekends lifestyle was difficult for me, as I wanted to be home with my children. So, I decided to embark on a new challenge, changed my career, and found an incredible home at MBM.

I joined MBM in 2012 as the Office Coordinator, and since my office is MBM’s reception desk, I still get to meet new people every day, as I am the greeting face of MBM’s Ottawa office. In this role, my primary responsibilities are the day-to-day office operation activities, coordinating the administrative staff and managing all Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and Law Society memberships. In addition to the general office operations, I also work with Randy, our Co-Managing Partner, to coordinate his schedule and ensure that his client meetings, business development calls and speaking engagements are all kept on track.

My Approach

My career revolves around dealing with people, so my approach at work is the same as my approach to life in general, and I can sum it up in one sentence: You should treat people the same way you want them to treat your children.

I always work hard to ensure that the people I work with are successful, that they achieve their best selves every day and represent MBM well in front of clients, colleagues, and friends. And because I think of MBM as a family, I feel a bit like a ‘mama bear’, protective of the younger staff, wanting to help guide them in their career, so I always keep my door open – which is easy when you sit at reception!

My life outside of work

I don’t care how busy life gets; I MUST start my day with an hour-long walk to clear my head while enjoying my country music! My other passion is gardening, where I also bring my country music. I love planting flowers and watching the colours explode in the garden! Everyone always asks me when I’ll use my green thumb and switch to a vegetable garden, but I have no intention of turning my passion into a cooking job. I love to eat, but I just don’t like cooking, thank god for restaurants! At the end of the day, whether working or relaxing with family, one thing always makes the day better – a really good hair day!
