My Background and Focus

Suzanne is a Partner and a registered Canadian Patent Agent with MBM’s Patent team. With a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and over 20 years of IP experience, her practice focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technologies, including chemical, biochemical, pharmaceutical, cleantech & green technologies, medical devices, mechanical, construction materials, consumer products, and agricultural sciences, among others. In addition, Suzanne has extensive expertise in the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, particularly on issues relating to the timing of information and drug submission requirements for listing a patent on the Patent Register. Throughout her career, she managed international patent portfolios, while working alongside our trusted foreign associates worldwide.

Before beginning her patent law career at MBM in 2002, and upon completing her doctoral studies at the University of Alberta, Suzanne spent two years as a Visiting Fellow at the Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences at the National Research Council of Canada.

She has a broad research background, including practical experience in oligosaccharide synthesis (both chemical and enzymatic), synthetic organic chemistry (including solid-phase synthetic methods), as well as various biochemical and analytical methods. Suzanne’s doctoral thesis focused on the synthesis of GM1 analogues, and it investigated the binding of these analogues to cholera and heat-labile enterotoxins.
